back...A documentary film screening at the Łódź Cultural Center
"It doesn't end there... The story of the childrens’ camp on Przemysłowa Street" and "Geheime Reichssache Kinderlager Schicksale in Polen” are the titles of the films presented today by the Museum of Polish Children – Victims of Totalitarianism during a screening at the Łódź Cultural Center.
"Geheime Reichssache Kinderlager - Schicksale in Polen" (Secret Reich Matter – Fate in Poland) is a 1971 reportage by Klaus Bednarz, a correspondent for West German ARD television in Warsaw. It is probably the only known foreign report on the German concentration camp for Polish children on Przemysłowa Street in Łódź and the martyrdom of Polish children during World War II.
The report was first broadcast on 21 November 1971 on West German ARD television. Until now it has not been available to the Polish public.
- The report focuses on the fate of Polish children during World War II. It touches on the subject of the German concentration camp for Polish children on Przemysłowa Street, as well as the issue of Germanization of Polish children. It contains unique accounts of Survivors of the camp and its branch in Dzierżązna. The material features statements by Dr. Czesław Kempisty, a doctor who treats victims of German concentration camps; Dr. Roman Hrabar, the Polish Government’s Plenipotentiary for the restitution of Polish children; and Alojzy Twardecki, a victim of Germanization. The reportage "Geheime Reichssache Kinderlager" is another important material documenting German crimes against Polish children during World War II, explains Dr. Ireneusz Piotr Maj, Director of the Museum.
The documentary film "It doesn't end there... The story of the children from the camp on Przemysłowa Street” is the latest production of the Museum, directed by Mateusz Winkel, which
premiered on December 7, 2022. It tells the story of the German child labor camp, which was located on Przemysłowa Street in Łódź's Bałuty district in 1942-1945. The film is a collection of interviews with Survivors combined with modern graphics and animation techniques. It also includes information provided by historians of the Museum of Polish Children – Victims of Totalitarianism, co-producer of the film.
The film broadcast was followed by the presentation of an exhibition entitled "An extraordinary Polish family. The fate of Gertruda Nowak – a child from the camp on Przemysłowa Street". The exhibition will be on display at the Łódź Cultural Center until March 8, 2023. The exhibition was financed by the Polish Energy Group.
The film entitled "It doesn't end there.... The story of children from the camp on Przemysłowa Street” was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the PGE Foundation.
