back...Remembrance March of the victims of the German concentration camp for Polish children in Łódź
Hunger, humiliation, pain and death from exhaustion – it is hard to imagine the endless suffering of the child prisoners of the camp in Łódź on Przemysłowa Street. We are obliged to make sure that this tragedy will never be forgotten.
On the 4th of November, a remembrance march organised by the Łódź Metropolitan Curia took place, the patronage over which was held by the Head of the Museum of Polish Children - Victims of Totalitarianism, Ireneusz Maj (PhD).
The solemn gathering started in the Divine Providence Church, with a holy mass said for the intention of the victims, during which the Bishop Marek Marczak gave a sermon. Afterwards, of the march – students at schools in Łódź and representatives of the curia, state authorities and local authorities – went to the Broken Heart Monument.
The ceremony was attended by the survivors of the camp on Przemysłowa Street. One of them, Jerzy Jeżewicz, addressed of the march on behalf of all the former camp prisoners. Afterwards, the Head of the Museum, Ireneusz Maj (PhD), read a letter from Marek Zakrzewski – a former prisoner at the German camp for Polish children.
After the remembrance march ended, the survivors visited and met its employees.
